THESE EFFORTS ARE HELPING INTEGRATE DISPLACEMENT INTO DEVELOPMENT, PEACEBUILDING AND CLIMATE STRATEGIES.

Turning displacement into recovery, resilience and opportunity

More than 82 million people were internally displaced by conflict, disasters and climate shocks  as of the end of 2025. For many, what begins as an emergency becomes a long-term crisis that affects housing, livelihoods, services and local economies.

The Global Solutions Hub on Internal Displacement is the United Nations' platform for helping governments turn internal displacement from a humanitarian challenge into a pathway for recovery, resilience and sustainable development. The Hub is anchored in UN DCO and supported by IOM, UNDP and UNHCR as the three Solutions Champions Agencies on Internal Displacement.

Working with Resident Coordinators and UN Country Teams, governments, development partners and international financial institutions, the Hub helps countries and displaced people move beyond crisis response towards durable solutions that enable displaced people to rebuild lives, strengthen host communities and support long-term development.

From crisis response to durable solutions

Emergency assistance saves lives. Durable solutions help people rebuild them.

Achieving durable solutions means more than providing humanitarian aid. It requires government leadership, access to housing, land, livelihoods and services, reliable data, coordinated planning and sustainable financing.

The Hub helps countries bring these elements together so that internal displacement becomes part of national development planning rather than a permanent humanitarian challenge.

Partnerships that make solutions possible

The Global Solutions Hub brings together governments, UN agencies, development banks, donors, civil society and financing partners around a shared goal: helping displaced people rebuild their lives with safety, dignity and opportunity.

By combining leadership, technical expertise and catalytic finance, the Hub helps countries develop solutions that benefit displaced people, host communities and the national systems that sustain long-term recovery.
