2nd World Summit for Social Development, Solution Session on “Solutions to Internal Displacement for Inclusive and Sustainable Social Development:
Solution Session | 5 November 2025 | Doha
The session brought together governments, UN leaders and development partners to examine how inclusive social development can help prevent, address and resolve internal displacement and ensure that internally displaced people (IDPs) are not left behind.
With internal displacement reaching unprecedented levels, participants highlighted the importance of ensuring that IDPs and displacement-affected communities have equitable access to essential public services and opportunities, including healthcare, education, social protection, housing, decent work, clean water and sanitation, electricity and digital connectivity.
The discussion showcased how governments and UN Country Teams are increasingly integrating internal displacement into national development plans, poverty reduction strategies, social policies and recovery efforts. Experiences from Mozambique, Afghanistan, the Central African Republic, Burundi, Somalia and Colombia demonstrated the importance of strong national leadership, inclusive policies and coordinated support to advance solutions.
Participants also emphasized that achieving solutions at scale requires a whole-of-financing approach, bringing together domestic and international, public and private resources. Greater investment in social protection, resilience and risk-informed recovery, alongside stronger partnerships with international financial institutions and other actors, will be essential to match the scale of the challenge.
